About Us

Charging Solutions
Designed for Renters

Owning an EV shouldn’t depend on owning a home—and Matcha is here to ensure it doesn’t. We started by tackling the biggest obstacles in multifamily housing: high upfront costs and unreliable charging options. With our hardware-agnostic MatchaOS platform, flexible financing, and 24/7 support, we turn ordinary parking spots into reliable, revenue-generating charging stations. Renters gain consistent access at home, while property owners get a no-hassle, value-adding amenity.
Today, our reach goes beyond apartment buildings to serve drivers where they live, work, and play. We’re expanding EV access through supporting community charging hubs, workplaces, garages, and mixed-use properties to reach commuters, residents of affordable housing, and visitors in towns and cities. Now operating in 10 US states and on track to reach 20 US states by year’s end, Matcha is scaling equitable, dependable EV charging across that nation.
About the company

Founded based on real experiences as renters

About the Founders
Matcha was founded by longtime friends and former Big 4 management consultants, Chris Kluesener and Jonathan Sobin, after personally experiencing the frustration of being renters unable to own an EV due to a lack of home charging access. Since 2021 the two have explored existing charging options from leading companies and consistently encountered high costs, unreliable service, and the inefficiencies of proprietary, closed-system technologies and proprietary hardware.
Determined to build something better, they embraced open architecture software and the Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP), launching MatchaOS in 2023—a vertically integrated EV charging platform purpose-built for multifamily and shared environments.
By 2024, Matcha expanded its model to include a fully outsourced charge point operator (CPO) solution with zero cost to property owners, unlocking a scalable path to widespread adoption.
Today, Matcha is designed to eliminate friction for both renters and property owners. For landlords, it transforms EV charging from a costly obligation into a revenue-generating amenity through a no-cost, profit-sharing model. The MatchaOS platform powers dynamic pricing, smart reservations, and peak-reducing energy management to ensure reliable performance with minimal downtime. For renters, it offers a seamless, affordable charging experience—removing the #1 barrier to EV adoption in multifamily housing.
Chris and Jon bring deep expertise in digital infrastructure, real estate, and marketplace business models from their careers at Deloitte, PwC, and successful startup ventures. They partnered with Bob Wold, former SVP of Technology at Trimble and serial entrepreneur, to build a technology-first, interoperable platform from the ground up.
At its core, Matcha is solving a problem the founders lived: making it possible for renters to drive electric. The company’s mission is to remove this barrier for the 115 million Americans who rent their homes—delivering an EV charging experience designed for the realities of limited electrical infrastructure and shared living spaces.
